    THE UNIVERSITY OF CONNECTICUT SCHOOL OF LA invites applicants to serve as a Teaching Fellow in its Tax Clinic, an intensive in-house clinical program, beginning in the summer of 2023. This is a full- time, 1-year (renewed annually), end-date appointment, that does not lead to academic tenure or other permanent employment.

    This position offers an attorney or accountant with an interest in clinical teaching the opportunity to teach, supervise students, and work with experienced faculty members in a law school clinical program. The fellow's duties will include planning and teaching clinic classes, supervising clinic students’ casework, direct client representation, and planning and participating in outreach and community education. The fellow will work closely with the Clinic’s faculty director and will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty and students in the Law School. The fellow will also have the opportunity and support to work on scholarship and pursue other learning goals.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Planning and co-teaching the clinic seminar classes. Supervising clinic students’ casework outside of court hearings. Supervising students in court (if a member of the bar).

    Conducting and supervising client interviews and making referrals. Providing short consultations to clinic callers.

    Planning and participating in advocacy, research, education, and outreach projects related to the clinic.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    A J.D. degree.

    Membership in the Connecticut bar or the ability to become a member within three months of hire (Connecticut’s bar admission rules allow faculty members to be admitted without taking the Connecticut bar examination in some circumstances) or holding an active license as a Certified Public Accountant in Connecticut.

    Practice experience in U.S. federal taxation.

    Excellent written and oral communication and advocacy skills. Demonstrated commitment to public interest or pro bono legal work. Demonstrated ability to work both collaboratively and independently.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Practice experience in a low income taxpayer clinic. An outstanding law school and/or law practice record.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    The position is at the Law School campus in Hartford. This is a non-tenure track 1-year (renewed annually), end-date appointment. The annual salary is $70,000. Benefits include health insurance and research support.

    Position Summary:

    The Director, Lewis B. Puller, Jr. Veterans Benefits Clinic and Clinical/Clinical Associate/Clinical Assistant Professor of Law provides legal services to veterans in their disability compensation claims at the administrative agency, Board of Veterans Appeals, and U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims. In addition, the Puller Clinic engages in informal advice, counsel and outreach, and offers an online certificate program for those interested in veterans advocacy. When appropriate and practicable, the Clinic operates in partnership with graduate psychology clinics and additional medical professionals to address both the legal and medical needs of veteran clients.

    The Puller Clinic trains law students in a clinical law school setting to be thoroughly familiar with a difficult area of administrative law, to develop basic and advanced law office management skills, to refine research and legal writing abilities, to interview clients and witnesses, to interact with opposing counsel, to draft legal briefs and memoranda when appropriate, and to create relationships with clients and investigate and advocate on their behalf both orally and in writing.

    The Director and Clinical/Clinical Associate/Clinical Assistant Professor of Law and will be responsible for all aspects of Puller Clinic operation, including:

    • Clinical Teaching: Bi-weekly seminar instruction; evaluating student performance and the status of cases through regularly scheduled student meetings; assessing student success with student-directed reviews and evaluations; preparing students for a number of different legal practical experiences through training and planning; evaluating student performance after legal experiences through after action reviews; working with students to understand various levels of legal authority in their cases; guiding and advising students on work with clients; overseeing outreach activities of the clinic with student interaction; advising students on practical legal work; preparing students for the ethical and reflective practice of law.
    • Casework and Client Representation: Responsible for operation of the Puller Clinic office as a small law office with law student associate attorneys. Case management of client files includes selecting clients, representing clients in disability compensation claims before administrative bodies and courts (as applicable); interviewing clients and witnesses; monitoring and supervising student work on the cases; keeping up to date on pertinent case law, regulations, decisions, statutes, etc.; making final legal decisions on the method of pursuing cases and the objectives; giving legal advice to clients; and working with students and medical professionals (as appropriate and practicable) to develop evidentiary support for cases. Case supervision is during the academic year as well as in the summer months, the latter with assistance from student research assistants.
    • Participate in fundraising activities as appropriate, including providing information to Law School Advancement, interacting with the Virginia General Assembly as appropriate, writing grants and proposals as well as serving as principal investigator for awarded grants; preparing required grant reports and other financial reporting, as required.
    • Work closely and coordinate with the Puller Clinic Advisory Board.
    • Oversee and implement all aspects an online certificate program in veteran advocacy.
    • Organize conferences, symposia, and educational outreach as appropriate; collaboration and partnership with other organizations; and supervision of clinical fellows, when necessary.

    Required Qualifications:

    • JD and valid state bar license required. If a Virginia Bar License is not held, must seek admission to the Virginia Bar, which may be done through reciprocity or examination.
    • Knowledge of and experience with representing veterans in disability compensation claims. Must have client-based experience, advocacy experience, and superior research and legal writing skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Prior experience in clinical teaching.

    Conditions of Employment:

    • This is a non-tenure eligible (NTE) position eligible for Security of Position.
    • This position may be hired as at the rank of Clinical, Clinical Associate, or Clinical Assistant Professor.
    • Contract length varies by rank; the contract for a Clinical Professor is presumptively renewable, subject to the terms of the Law School Faculty Handbook and the William & Mary Faculty Handbook. The contracts for other ranks are renewable according to the promotion procedures outlined in the Law School Faculty Handbook.

    The LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center seeks to The Director of Field Placements and Pro Bono Programs oversees student placements in the Law Center’s active Field Placement program and serves as the faculty advisor for the Law Center’s Public Interest Law Society (PILS).     The University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law invites applications for a full-time, year-round clinical faculty member to direct the Community Legal Services Clinics commencing no later than the start of the 2024-2025 academic year. Its beautiful Gothic Revival campus is located in the West End of Hartford, a few miles from the state capitol and courts, as well as the headquarters of leading insurance companies and other major corporations. The School has both day and evening divisions and offers the JD (Juris Doctor) degree, LLM (Master of Laws) degrees, and the SJD (Doctor of Laws) degree, as well as several dual degree programs.     MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
    • Excellent legal writing and communication skills.
    • Three years of legal practice experience.
    • Five years of experience teaching legal writing in a full-time law school position.
    • Experience teaching other lawyering skills such as interviewing, counseling, negotiation, and oral advocacy; or experience training or mentoring lawyers in such skills.
    • Tenure or a similarly secure long-term contract at another law school, or eligibility for tenure or a presumptively renewing long-term contract at the time of hire.
    • Demonstrated interest in and involvement with the legal writing and lawyering skills education community and/or professional organizations related to teaching law, legal writing, or lawyering skills.
    • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in legal education and/or the legal profession.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience directing a legal research and writing program.
    • Seven or more years of experience practicing and/or teaching the skills taught in the Legal Practice program, including legal writing, client interviewing, client counseling, negotiation, and oral advocacy.

    APPOINTMENT TERMS

    This is a full-time appointment for a tenured-at-hire position or a position covered by the School of Law’s long-term-contract policy, which provides, upon the attainment of a presumptively-renewing long-term contract, security of position equivalent to tenure.

    Applicants must meet University requirements for appointment at the rank of full Professor for tenured upon hire. Salary will be highly competitive and salary and rank will be commensurate with background, qualifications, and experience. Candidates should expect to work at the Law School located in Hartford, Connecticut.

    Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon, invites applications from candidates to teach as an Assistant Professor in our nationally ranked Lawyering Program beginning in the 2024-25 academic year. Our legal writing program was ranked 16th by U.S. News and World Report in 2023. We are looking for an Assistant Professor who can join us to teach first year Lawyering courses and the Advanced Legal Writing course, and who are dedicated to maintaining and advancing the quality and reputation of our Program.  

    Assistant Professors in our Lawyering program have the opportunity to advance to long term employment and to participate in faculty voting. They receive funding for scholarship, research, and travel for conferences and presentations. We also offer a unique, collaborative academic community at Lewis & Clark and the chance to teach while enjoying the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.

    NORTHEASTERN UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW is hiring a Community Fellow for its Civil Rights and Restorative Justice Project.

    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    The Civil Rights & Restorative Justice Project, founded in 2007, is the pioneer and premier academic program that examines current racial inequities through the lens of history and seeks creative reparative justice. CRRJ investigates, publicizes, and remediates cases of racial homicides during the period of 1930 and 1954. In 2022, CRRJ launched a publicly available digital Archive of 1,000 cases of racial violence in the Jim Crow South. CRRJ is a project of the Center for Law, Equity and Race at Northeastern University School of Law.

    CRRJ seeks to expand its work with historically harmed communities by providing them meaningful access to the Archive and by facilitating community-based research. The Fellow will also have the opportunity to utilize the Archive and interact with experts, journalists and others who are focusing on historical racism in the US and seeking avenues for redress.

    The Community Fellow will have an opportunity to undertake the following activities:

    • 1.  Build a project of their choosing based on the Archive.
    • 2. Design, manage, and execute CRRJ’s community-based programs associated with the history that is the subject of the Archive, including convenings, educational programming in the humanities and arts, exhibitions. Such community-based projects include renaming streets to memorialize victims of racial terror killings; promoting arts projects on this topic; engaging public officials; and hosting commemorative events.
    • 3.  Promote strong collaborative relations with CRRJ’s and CLEAR's non-academic partner organizations.

    This is a full-time US based one-year position with opportunity for renewal supported by an external grant. The Community Fellow will be expected to attend meetings and events at Northeastern University in Boston.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    A Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college in any field or area of study, such as Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Fine Arts.

    Proven track record of at least five years of anti-racist and social justice work and activities at the local, state, or national level, demonstrating the ability to engage and collaborate with community members on different levels.
