    THE UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for two Assistant Professor of Lawyering Skills. These are non-tenure track positions with an initial appointment of one year and the possibility of renewal for long-term (three or five-year) appointments.

    The faculty member would join a team of experienced full-time faculty members who make up the School of Law’s Legal Profession Program.  Responsibilities include:

            Teaching Legal Profession I and II, and other legal research and writing courses related to legal reasoning and critical reading;

            Providing service to the School of Law and the University, and

            Participating in the larger community for legal research and writing professionals through regular attendance or presentations at conferences and other relevant endeavors to support the faculty member’s professional development.

     Minimum Qualifications

            A J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school;

            Articulable commitment to the field of legal research and writing, including implementing the best models and practices available to teach legal research and writing and utilizing recent developments in pedagogy in law schools in the United States;

            Prior legal practice experience in the United States; and

            Excellent written communication skills.

    Preferred Qualifications

    The ideal candidate will also bring many of the following:

            Recent successful experience in legal research and writing teaching, including implementing best models and practices available to teach legal research and writing and utilizing recent developments in pedagogy in law schools in the United States;

            Successful experience in any or all of the following:

    UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA COLLEGE OF LAW, SAN FRANCISCO (“UC Law SF,” formerly, “UC Hastings”), located in downtown San Francisco, seeks applicants for a contract (non-tenure-track) faculty role. This full-time faculty position is situated within the law school’s innovative, faculty-led Office for Academic Skills Instruction and Support (OASIS) and provides dedicated academic and bar skills instruction and support to students in the Legal Education Opportunity Program (LEOP). LEOP was created by the UC Law SF faculty in 1969 to make legal education accessible to students who have overcome adversity. This acclaimed program, which is unique among University of California-affiliated law schools, supports about 20 percent of our JD students.

    This position reports to the Associate Dean for OASIS on co-curricular and academic skills and programming matters. The faculty member in this role coordinates closely with the Assistant Dean for LEOP and the Director of Bar Passage Support, as well. The role includes oversight and administration of co-curricular academic skills and bar support programming for LEOP students and teaching.

    The position is full-time. Contract lengths for Professors of Practice are 1-5 years and may be renewed. The faculty rank is Lecturer, with a Professor of Practice working title (or Associate Professor of Practice for persons with fewer than five years of full-time teaching experience). The start date is July 1, 2025, or sooner, depending on the chosen candidate’s availability.

    This is a year-round position. The Professor of Practice is obligated to teach for-credit classes only during the fall and spring but is responsible for working on LEOP skills support program development, bar support for recent LEOP graduates, and other non-teaching matters year-round, including the summer months.

    Interested candidates must have the following qualifications:

    • JD degree.
    • Bar membership.
    • At least 3 years of practice or teaching experience.
    • Capacity to implement academic support programming, train and manage teaching assistants and provide feedback on written legal analysis and other skills tested in law school classes and on the bar exam.
    • Demonstrated ability to support students who have overcome disadvantage.
    • Cross cultural competency, including the ability to connect with diverse and first generation students.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

    Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.

    The anticipated starting base compensation range is $99,275 - $109,725, depending on prior teaching experience. The role also includes a faculty development account. This position qualifies for the Full UC Benefits Package, which includes primary retirement benefits, comprehensive medical, dental and vision coverage, and a variety of voluntary supplemental benefit plans to meet the incumbents individual needs.

    FORDHAM UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for a full-time tenure, tenure-track, or long-term contract faculty position to direct our Entrepreneurial Law Clinic.  The faculty member will join a vibrant clinical program that has 15 full-time clinicians who teach, practice, and lead. We welcome interest both from those new to clinical legal teaching and from experienced clinicians; an appointment could be made to Associate Clinical Professor, Associate Professor, Clinical Professor, or Professor.

    We seek dynamic candidates who are excited about clinical legal education, deeply committed to the academic enterprise, and able to collaborate with diverse groups inside and outside our university. We also welcome candidates who possess the capacity and inclination to support and advance law reform.  Commitment to principles of experiential learning and clinical pedagogy is central to the position; those who are not already conversant with these principles should be committed to developing in this domain.  The faculty member will have primary responsibility teaching and supervising students in the Entrepreneurial Clinic at our in-house law firm (Lincoln Square Legal Services, Inc.).  They will also have primary responsibility for selecting clients and matters and structuring the overall design and goals of the clinic.

    In its current form, the highly successful Entrepreneurial Law Clinic provides pro bono transactional legal services to under-resourced entrepreneurs and small business owners and participates in community outreach to educate entrepreneurs about legal issues.  Students work with clients to form entities, structure incentive compensation for founders, protect clients' intellectual property rights, help clients build their workforce, as well as draft shareholder, operating, vendor, customer, lease and/or employment agreements.  We are open to candidates who wish to work within the Clinic’s current form as well as those who wish to advance their own distinctive vision of an Entrepreneurial Clinic at Fordham Law School.

    CORNELL LAW SCHOOL is soliciting applications for a full-time Clinical Professor (Assistant, Associate, or Full – rank commensurate with experience) to join the faculty of the Entrepreneurship Law Clinic (the ELC). This position will be based in Ithaca, New York.

    The ELC, Cornell’s only transactional law clinic, is in its sixth year of operation. The ELC provides pro bono transactional legal services to startup businesses and entrepreneurs who are not yet ready or able to engage paid legal counsel, but who need assistance setting the legal foundation for their businesses. The ELC’s clients include both for-profit and not-for-profit businesses that are poised to create jobs, contribute to community economic development, and promote innovation. Some clients are local in their focus, and others have the potential to have an impact far beyond New York State. Law students working in the ELC gain practical experience in a variety of substantive legal areas including business structuring and entity formation, intellectual property, employment, immigration, finance and commercial contracts.

    The ELC is expanding, thanks to a significant gift establishing the Blassberg-Rice Entrepreneurship Law Center (the Center). The expansion of the ELC represents Cornell Law School’s commitment to community-engaged learning and partnerships throughout New York State. The ELC will ultimately include three faculty members, two based in Ithaca and one based in New York City. Specifically:

    • The current position is to replace the ELC’s founding clinician, who is moving away from Ithaca and leaving Cornell Law School. The appointment is expected to start in July 2025.
    • The ELC recently hired a full-time New York City-based clinician to teach a section of the ELC at the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island, establishing Cornell’s first New York City-based law clinic. This program will start in January 2025.
    • The current goal is to hire the second Ithaca-based ELC faculty member to begin their appointment in fall 2026.

    The successful candidate’s responsibilities will include the following:

    • Teach or co-teach the seminar component for the Ithaca section(s) of the introductory and/or advanced ELC, focusing on both substantive business law and legal skills such as contract drafting and client relations.
    • Manage ongoing client engagements and supervise students’ client work, ensuring that the work is done in a timely and professional manner.
    • Respond to inquiries from potential clients and select clients to work with the ELC.
    • Develop resources to support the ELC’s engagement with the local community, including workshops, presentations and standard forms.
    • Help maintain relationships with law firms and other organizations that support the ELC.
    • Engage with the regional and national clinical legal education communities.
    • Co-lead the appointments process for the second Ithaca-based ELC faculty member.

    Depending on the successful candidate’s experience, the position may involve a leadership role in the Center as well.

    The appointment level will depend on the successful applicant’s level of experience, but the appointments will be to the long-term, presumptively renewable, contract track. The candidate will be a member of the Law School clinical faculty with voting rights and academic leave terms consistent with the title.

    Qualifications:

    JD and admission to the New York bar (or eligibility for admission on motion to the New York bar). A successful candidate must have a minimum of five years’ relevant practice experience, excellent supervisee- and client-management skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced law practice environment, and a track record of forming positive professional relationships. Prior law school teaching or clinical teaching experience is strongly preferred.

    NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF LAW is excited to announce that we are hiring a Clinical Assistant Professor and Director of Business Law Innovation Clinic ideally for Spring 2025.  The Business Law Innovation Clinic represents clients in business law matters such as entity formation and incorporation, applications for Business Enterprise Certifications,  and with other business law matters commensurate with the faculty member’s experience and expertise.   The Clinic represents clients with the formation of non-profit organizations, with applications for federal income tax exemption, and with other matters on behalf of non-profit organizations commensurate with the faculty member’s experience and expertise.  The Director of the Business Law Innovation Clinic will work closely with the College of Business and other community partners.

    GEORGETOWN LAW seeks applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position to direct a new human rights clinic beginning in the 2025-2026 academic year.

    We welcome candidates who can propose the specific areas of focus for the new human rights clinic with a particular emphasis on teaching the skills of client-centered practice. We are open to a wide range of human rights subjects, but we are particularly interested in the following discrete and intersecting areas of international human rights law and its domestic application: (1) women’s human rights, including reproductive justice, (2) business and human rights, (3) economic, social, and cultural human rights, especially those that further the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and (4) strategies to support and defend the rights of human rights defenders. Finally, given Georgetown Law’s home in Washington, D.C., we are interested in a vision for the clinic that leverages that strategic location through human rights advocacy on Capitol Hill and/or before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

    The appointments committee is particularly interested in candidates with prior full-time clinical teaching experience and prior human rights law experience in the relevant practice areas. Georgetown Law has a unitary tenure track. Candidates must demonstrate a record of strong academic performance and either an excellent scholarly record (if a lateral candidate) or excellent potential for scholarly achievement (if an entry-level candidate). All candidates must hold a J.D. prior to the start date.

Through this program, students learn the practical art of lawyering while providing quality legal representation to under-represented individuals and organizations. We offer 17 different clinics and more than 300 law students participate in our clinics every year.     THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA JAMES E. ROGERS COLLEGE OF LAW seeks applicants for a post-graduate fellowship position in the Veterans Advocacy Law Clinic (VALC) to start on or about September 1, 2024. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of extension for a second year depending on continuation of funding and job performance. Some travel for court and other clinic-related work will be required.

    The VALC represents U.S. military veterans and service members in a local veterans treatment court, on administrative law cases before federal agencies and in federal court, and engages in special projects including community outreach. The Post-Graduate Clinic Fellow position is a unique opportunity for a recent law school graduate to gain experience in veterans law advocacy and exposure to clinical legal education. The Fellow will work closely with VALC faculty by assisting in the representation of clients and leading the creation of a new Clinic project, which is to increase access to justice for rural veterans, including Native American veterans. The Fellow will be supervised and mentored by the Director of the Clinic, as well as other Clinic faculty, and work collaboratively with students and clinical staff.

    The VALC provides pro bono legal services to U.S. veterans and service members by representing them in veterans treatment courts, on VA disability benefits compensation cases, and on discharge upgrade and correction of military records cases. The Clinic also helps veterans and their family members through its robust Intake and Referral Program and by engaging in community outreach and special projects, which have included, for example, amicus briefs to the 9th Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court and establishing an on-site legal clinic at the VA. Many of the veterans and service members it assists have physical and mental health challenges and/or substance use issues, some of which were caused directly or indirectly by their military service. Thus, much of the Clinic’s work relates to addressing the intersection of these issues and legal needs.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The Fellow will lead the creation of a new project in the VALC, which is to increase access to justice for veterans in rural areas and veterans who are distinctly underserved, specifically including Native American veterans—whether rural or not. This may require building community relationships, networking, collaborating, and other outreach skills. The Project may also include training Tribal VSOs (veterans service organizations) and other advocates on how to help veterans access their benefits.
    •  The Fellow will represent veterans in veterans treatment court, assist in the representation of veterans on administrative law cases that are before the VA and/or DOD agencies and/or federal district or appellate courts, and assist with VALC legal clinics held at the VA or other locations.
    • The Fellow will participate in the Clinic’s weekly class seminar, class Rounds, and select case meetings. 

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

    • Ability to assume responsibility quickly, work independently and as part of a team, and seek guidance when appropriate
    • Strong organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Excellent legal research and writing, and advocacy skills
    • Good people skills and ability to maintain positive relations with a diverse population, community organizations and government agencies

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
    • Applicant must be a current member in good standing of the Arizona Bar, sitting for the July 2024 Arizona Bar Exam, or, for other jurisdictions, meets the requirements of Arizona Supreme Court Rule 39(c)(5) (recent law graduates) or 39(d) (military spouses). Continuation of employment dependent on bar passage.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • Experience in a law school clinic
    • Experience working with veterans and/or Native Americans and Alaska Natives or experience with or knowledge of issues related to these populations

The candidate selected will either create a new clinic or co-teach in one of the law school’s existing clinics, and will assist in the planning and development of the overall clinical program.

    Appointment, merit, and promotion in the Clinical Professor of Law series requires, in addition to excellence in teaching and service, that the candidate makes outstanding and externally recognized contributions in research/creative activity in pedagogy and/or the discipline.

    Applicants must hold a J.D. or a Ph.D, and be licensed to practice law in California by the end of their first year of employment. At least five years of practice experience and two years of clinical teaching experience are strongly preferred, but all applicant must have a demonstrated history of (or potential for) outstanding teaching achievement.
