    VERMONT LAW AND GRADUATE SCHOOL is hiring an Assistant/Associate Professor of Law to supervise and teach clinic students working on litigation and advocacy matters addressing important environmental and natural resources issues in the Environmental Advocacy Clinic. An applicant should have an enthusiasm for working with law students who are eager to learn and practice skills.

    Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

    • Collaborate with clients, prospective clients, and Clinic Director to develop and maintain docket of student-centered litigation and advocacy matters addressing important environmental and natural resources issues.
    • Take primary responsibility for all aspects of their EAC matters, including litigation and administrative proceedings.
    • Collaborate with and mentor more junior attorneys (when requested).
    • Work with other professors to develop and teach practical legal skills to student clinicians.
    • Develop, update, and teach seminars.
    • Facilitate case reviews.
    • Supervise multiple student clinicians each semester (fall, spring, and summer).
    • Collaborate and work with technical experts as needed.
    • Manage positive relationships with co-counsel, clients, and partners.
    • Work with the press and help develop communication strategies where appropriate.
    • Attend and present at relevant conferences.
    • Attend and participate in faculty, e-faculty, and clinical faculty meetings.
    • Participate actively in the dynamic VLGS law school environment, including collaboration with other law school programs.
    • Juris Doctorate (JD) degree.
    • Must be a licensed attorney who is active and a member in good standing in Vermont or has the ability to waive into Vermont for bar licensing purposes.
    • 5-10 years or more of relevant legal advocacy experience, with substantial weight given to environmental litigation and administrative proceeding experience.
    • Understanding of and appreciation for inclusion, including the ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds, identities, and viewpoints.
    • Excellent research, writing, and oral advocacy skills.

    HOWARD UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for a Supervising Attorney and Adjunct Professor position to launch a new Estate Planning and Heirs’ Property Clinic to begin in August 2023.  This is a grant-funded position that can be either full or part time, depending on the desires of the successful candidate.  The successful candidate will have extensive experience drafting a variety of estate planning documents, such as wills, trusts, healthcare directives, and powers of attorney as well as an interest in the legal issues created by heirs’ property.  Additionally, the successful candidate will have a passion for teaching aspiring attorneys in a dynamic, diverse environment and should be prepared to spend considerable time outside the classroom working with students.  Bar admission in the District of Columbia is preferred, but not required.

    NEW YORK UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW is hiring a clinical teaching fellow to support the work of the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic and the Civil Rights in the Criminal Legal System Clinic.     New York University School of Law seeks applicants for a two-year clinical teaching fellowship. This Fellowship commences during the summer of 2023 and ends during the summer of 2025. It is designed for lawyers with at least three years of practice who are considering a career in law school teaching. The fellow will work with the Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic and the Civil Rights in the Criminal Legal System Clinic. Responsibilities include (i) supervising law students in civil rights cases and serving as a mentor and role model to law students in the clinics; (ii) helping to design and teach clinic seminar classes and facilitating case rounds; and (iii) sharing in the administrative responsibilities of the clinics. All work will be conducted with the support of the clinical faculty and will focus on providing legal assistance to low-income civil rights clients.

The Civil Rights and Racial Justice Clinic represents individuals fighting discrimination and injustice and works to promote and protect civil rights and community equity; challenge issues of economic and political inequality, poverty, and racial injustice; and help empower traditionally marginalized communities.

    THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO LAW SCHOOL is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time, twelve-month position training and supervising law students as a Fellow, appointed with the rank of Lecturer, in the Law School's Abrams Environmental Law Clinic. The appointment is for the 2023-24 academic year and is expected to begin between August and September 2023, and to end one year later; re-appointment for an additional term may be possible. The salary for the position is $70,000.

    Representing environmental organizations and affected persons, the Abrams Environmental Law Clinic teaches law students about the practice of law through suing those who pollute illegally, fighting for stricter permits, advocating for changes to regulations and laws, and promoting innovative approaches for improving the environment. In addition, the clinic’s faculty are some of the primary resources for law student organizations and law students interested in environmental and energy issues, and clinic faculty have helped to organize panels, events and conferences on these topics.

    Under supervision of the Clinic’s Director, the successful candidate will help to train and supervise students, teach the clinic’s seminar component, develop potential projects, assist in publicizing the clinic’s cases and activities, and organize and coordinating relevant events, lectures and other clinic activities. One goal of this Fellowship is to train aspiring clinical teachers and public interest environmental attorneys.

    Candidates must have a J.D. and at least two years of work experience as a practicing lawyer, with a preference for those who have worked for an environmental non-profit organization or government agency using litigation and similar enforcement tools. Must be a member in good standing of at least one bar and must be able to secure admission to the Illinois bar through waiver or examination promptly upon joining the clinic. Excellent writing, editing, advocacy, and supervision skills are required. Experience clerking at the trial court level is strongly desired, but not required. Prior teaching experience is highly desirable, but not required.

    UCLA SCHOOL OF LAW is seeking a staff attorney for the Veterans Legal Clinic.

    The Veterans Legal Clinic provides legal assistance to former service members and their families. The Clinic is located at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles campus, which is being redeveloped to provide additional housing opportunities to unhoused former service members. Many of the Clinic's clients are people that are unhoused and stay on the VA campus and those who are aging, disabled, or justice-involved or returning from incarceration.

    The Clinic primarily represents clients in an array of issues, including disability benefits (both VA benefits and Social Security), citation defense, and housing. In addition to providing direct legal representation to individuals, the Clinic seeks to provide an interdisciplinary approach to client engagement by collaborating with other advocates, such as social workers and organizers. The Clinic also engages in policy advocacy in collaboration with community partners and may participate in impact litigation projects.

    The Clinic operates as both a small pro bono law firm and an experiential learning course for UCLA law students. Though law students will be providing legal assistance as part of their coursework throughout the school year, the Staff Attorney will not be responsible for teaching these students but may work closely with clinical supervisors and student teams.

    Position Description

    The UCLA School of Law Veterans Legal Clinic is seeking a staff attorney to expand its services through client representation, community engagement and Clinic management. The Clinic is a small law office and the Staff Attorney has the opportunity to make a significant contribution in determining how services are provided. The Staff Attorney will be primarily located at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs West Los Angeles Campus. Job duties will vary, based on client and community need, but may include:

    • Representing clients in administrative hearings, court proceedings, and appeals on legal issues such as VA benefits, quality of life citations, and housing matters;
    • Conducting intake or initial interviews with potential clients to provide legal advice and assess cases for possible representation;
    • Providing limited assistance and referrals for legal issues as appropriate;

    STCL Houston seeks a full-time, exempt public interest attorney for a time limited program that ends on August 31, 2024, unless renewed by additional funds. Primary subject matter is General Civil Law. Client base is drawn from Brazoria, Ft. Bend, Harris, and Montgomery Counties—indigent and economically disadvantaged persons. Provides high quality legal representation and community service to Clinics’ client base in landlord/tenant, emergency rental assistance, and self-help assistance in various civil law matters, often utilizing student/qualified unlicensed graduate intern involvement designed to enhance student/graduate education experience by performing the following duties.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Collaborate with Clinics’ faculty, coordinators, and public interest attorneys in assisting student interns with client interactions, including intake, interviews, and correspondence.

    Provide legal representation to eligible applicants for landlord/tenant matters, including eviction defense in Justice Courts or County Courts.

    Assist with the pro se clinics; develop self-help videos, brochures, or handouts; and serve at self help desks at the courthouse.

    Attend partnership or collaborative meetings as representative of the Clinics.

    Conduct information sessions or presentations at outreach events, occasionally in the evenings or on weekends.

    Assist with the development and implementation of the outreach activities, such as making connections with partner agencies and distributing materials at community service fairs.
