    The Paul M. Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University invites applications for a faculty position in the Law Center’s Clinical Legal Education Program to teach and direct the Immigration Law Clinic. This is a full-time position starting in Fall 2015. The position may be tenure-track or contract-track depending on the candidate’s qualifications and professional and academic interests. Entry-level and experienced teachers are encouraged to apply.

    The Immigration Law Clinic is a five credit, one-semester clinic in which students represent individuals in affirmative asylum, defense of removal, and adjustment of status cases. Louisiana is home to one of the busiest Immigration Courts in Oakdale, Louisiana, as well as an Immigration Court in New Orleans. There is also a large population of individuals in immigration detention facilities throughout the state. 

    Minimum Qualifications:  Candidates must possess a J.D. degree and be licensed to practice and in good standing in a U.S. jurisdiction with a minimum of 5 years experience in immigration law.

    Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated excellence in the practice of immigration law; experience teaching and supervising and mentoring students/new attorneys in the practice of law; as well as a record of demonstrated excellence, or the promise of excellence, in teaching and academic scholarship.

    STAR (Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response) and the Law Clinic at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center, Louisiana State University, are collaborating to provide legal representation to victims of sexual assault through a Civil Legal Needs of Sexual Assault Survivors Law Clinic and are seeking a Attorney Supervisor to teach a clinical course, supervise law students in their representation of clinic clients, mentor other staff attorneys in the Advocacy and Legal Services Program of STAR, as well as assist with other administrative tasks necessary in the operations of the Advocacy and Legal Services Program and the Law Clinic.

     

    The Attorney Supervisor will be an employee of STAR and may receive a Clinical Adjunct Appointment from the LSU Law Center to teach the Civil Legal Needs of Sexual Assault Survivors Law Clinic and supervise students in their clinical activities. Current grant funding provides for a Civil Legal Needs of Sexual Assault Survivors Law Clinic for the academic calendar years of Fall 2015 through Spring 2017.

     

    Classification: 25-32 hrs/wk, Part-Time/Non-Exempt

     

    Duties and Responsibilities:

                 Provide direct legal representation to survivors of sexual assault, including civil and criminal orders of protection, separation and divorce, child custody and support, spousal support, property, housing, employment issues, privacy and confidentiality issues, Title IX and education issues, campus safety issues, and immigration;

                 Develop and deliver Civil Legal Needs of Sexual Assault Survivors Law Clinic curriculum for the academic calendar years of Fall 2015 through Spring 2017;

                 Oversee student attorneys through the Civil Legal Needs of Sexual Assault Survivors Law Clinic;

                 Mentoring and provide guidance to staff attorney at STAR;

                 Respond to requests from clients during and/or after business hours;

                 Monitor and follow up on grant objectives;

                 Participate in advocacy team meetings, staff meetings and community meetings as requested;

                 Assist in developing reports as required by funder(s); and

                 Performing other duties as assigned by supervisor.

     

    Qualifications:

                 Candidates must be licensed to practice in Louisiana with a minimum of 10 years of experience in the practice of law, as well as have demonstrated knowledge, expertise and commitment to social justice and/or victim services work.

                 Teaching, mentoring, and supervisory experience is preferred, but not required.

                 Candidates must be interested in teaching and supervising law students acting in a representative capacity pursuant to Louisiana Supreme Court Rule XX. 

                 Applicant must consent to and successfully complete a full background investigation, which includes a criminal history check and finger printing.

                 Applicant must have completed, or will complete in the first year of employment, a mandatory 40 hours of sexual violence training; plus 20 hours of continuing education/training annually.

                 Applicant must have the ability to set clear, professional boundaries and the ability to maintain client and agency confidentiality.

                 Applicant must have the ability to be self-directed yet work effectively as a team member.

                 Applicant must be able to identify and respond to shifting priorities.

                 Applicant must have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and have excellent organizational skills.

                 Applicant must have a valid driver’s license, provide own transportation and provide proof of auto insurance.

                 Applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively, problem solve, and work well with people from diverse backgrounds.

                 Applicants who are bilingual in Spanish/English are highly desired.

     

    Work Hours: Flexible/dependent upon schedule

     

    Salary and Benefits: Salary range for this position is commensurate with experience.

    TURNER ENVIRONMENTAL LAW CLINIC FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

    The Turner Environmental Law Clinic at Emory University School of Law offers a one-year post-graduate fellowship to provide a recent law school graduate the opportunity to learn to be an effective environmental advocate while working with the Clinic to address some of the most difficult and cutting-edge environmental issues of the day, including: sustainable energy and climate change, sustainable agriculture and urban farming, water resource protection, conservation and land use, and citizen enforcement and participation in regulatory and judicial proceedings. The fellowship focuses on building the next generation of influential attorneys and academics specializing in public interest environmental law. The fellowship also provides intensive opportunities to develop clinical education skills. The next Turner Environmental Law Clinic Fellowship will begin January 2015.
    The Turner Environmental Law Clinic fellow will work under the supervision of Clinic faculty on a variety of projects that will include, at a minimum, the following:



    • Supervise students in the Turner Environmental Law Clinic and assist with teaching in the Clinic’s seminar class.
    • Represent the Clinic’s clients in complex civil litigation, transactional, and policy matters, while working closely with co-counsel, expert witnesses, and municipal leaders.

    • Collaborate with Clinic faculty on environmental law and research projects.
    The fellow may also choose to research and write at least one article, policy paper, or other approved project of publishable quality on a topic relating to environmental law.



    Qualifications: Law school graduate within three (3) years of graduation, excellent research and writing skills, and proven commitment to public service in the area of environmental law.

    Position Description:

    • Recruit, train, supervise, and mentor experienced lawyers who will teach additional sections of Business Planning as adjunct faculty;
    • Provide teaching support and conduct regular evaluations of adjunct faculty teaching Business Planning and communicate this feedback to the Associate Dean to maintain high standards of teaching in all sections of the Business Planning course;
    • Coordinate with the Associate Dean to schedule sufficient sections to accommodate student demand for the course (presently seven sections are offered each academic year);
    • Engage in outreach to students (both current and prospective) as well as law firms and other prospective employers to promote the Business Law Practicum;
    • Maintain and expand the Business Law Practicum website;
    • Collaborate with LLS faculty who teach business law-related subjects to expand opportunities for students to enroll in classes that offer experiential learning by creating new courses that use a simulated deal format;

    Requisite Qualifications:

Applicants with prior teaching experience are strongly preferred. A significant element of the student experience in enrolling in courses offered in the Business Law Practicum is the opportunity that such classes provide for law students to receive detailed and highly-individualized feedback from the professor on their written work product in a manner that is consistent with what an experienced supervising attorney would provide to junior associates.     California Western School of Law is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to teach in our Clinical Internship Program, and who has experience and interest in teaching Family Law or Business Law.

    Syracuse University College of Law invites applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor for the Disability Rights Clinic.  This is a full time, temporary appointment during the spring 2015 semester.

    The Disability Rights Clinic (DRC) is one of nine clinical courses in the College of Law.  It is dedicated to providing an exceptional educational experience through representation of individuals with disabilities as well as groups representing the disabled community.  Students enrolled in the DRC handle a case load consisting of employment discrimination, disability-related access to state and local government services and places of public accommodation, special education, and prisoners with disabilities.  Students advocate for clients with disabilities in administrative and judicial proceedings, and engage with the local community in educational advocacy.

    The Visitor will supervise students on existing case work, identify appropriate legal work, teach the twice weekly seminar, and participate with other clinical faculty in the operation of the Office of Clinical Legal Education.

    J.D. is required and a minimum of five years of relevant practice experience in disability rights law. Experience or an interest in teaching is necessary, particularly using clinical methodologies.  Attorneys who are faculty in the law clinics must be highly qualified, experienced and motivated.
