THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA COLLEGE OF LAW is hiring a Clinical Professor or Clinical Associate Professor.

Consistent with the mission and responsibilities of a top-tier public research university, we are interested in candidates who are experienced attorneys and teachers, and who will participate actively in the intellectual life of the College of Law, whether through scholarship, advocacy or community engagement.  In addition, we desire candidates with experience supervising international externship placements and a demonstrated ability to uphold a standard of cultural competence and respect for difference consistent with the College of Law’s commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Required qualifications

• J.D. degree;
• Experience in teaching law to students, attorneys or other adult learners;
• Three years of law-related professional experience (with a minimum of two years practice experience);
• Admitted to practice in Iowa or a member of a state Bar in good standing and eligible for admission without examination under Iowa Supreme Court Rule 31.12.

Preferred qualifications 

• Demonstrated interest in clinical teaching, with a preference for human rights;
• Legal supervisory experience in a practice or academic setting;
• Experience supervising international externship placements;
• Strong communication skills, particularly in practice-related writing (publications may also be examined when considering writing skills);
• Strong academic record;
• Demonstrated ability to uphold a standard of cultural competence and respect for difference through effective relationships with diverse students, faculty, staff, community members, and/or clients.
