Rutgers Law School - Practitioner in Residence - Housing Justice & Tenant Solidarity Clinic and Community & Transactional Lawyering Clinic

14 Aug 2022 7:17 PM | Jeff Baker (Administrator)

RUTGERS LAW SCHOOL is hiring a Practitioner-in-Residence with a passion for housing justice based in Newark.

The Housing Justice & Tenant Solidarity Clinic and the Community & Transactional Lawyering Clinic are seeking a Practitioner-in-Residence to supervise four students across both clinics. This position is designed to support aspiring clinical educators to enter the job market through support of their scholarship. If desired, the practitioner-in-residence could spend roughly 80% of their compensated time on clinic and 20% dedicated to their own scholarship in anticipation of either entering the academic job market or submitting articles for publication.

The Housing Justice & Tenant Solidarity Clinic’s work includes training law students to support community organizers engaged in the fight for housing justice. Work includes supervision of students engaged in eviction defense litigation, conditions related litigation, and federal court anti-discrimination litigation.

The Community & Transactional Lawyering Clinic, among other things, will provide technical assistance for housing justice organizing partners, including advising on policy matters and meeting the transactional needs of our housing justice community partners.

This is a temporary appointment. The Practitioner-in-Residence will supervise two students from each of the respective clinics for four students in total. They will be supervised by the Director of the Housing Justice & Tenant Solidarity Clinic. We are looking for a candidate with 3-8 years of relevant experience. The position would pay $75,000-90,000 depending on experience, plus generous benefits. The start date for the position would ideally be late August 2022. This position is for one year with the possibility of extension to two years contingent on the availability of funding.
