NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PRITZKER SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for a full-time clinical assistant professorship with the Environmental Advocacy Center (EAC) within the Bluhm Legal Clinic with an expected start date of August 1, 2022.

Founded in 2009, the EAC’s work is driven by critical environmental issues - clean air and water, cleanup of hazardous waste sites, safe drinking water, environmental justice, energy policy, and sustainability and climate change.

Role & Responsibilities

Teaching and co-teaching clinical courses relating to the environmental topics listed above

Supervision of Montgomery Clinical Fellow

Partnering with environmental organizations including the Environmental Law and Policy Center, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and Elevate Energy

Guiding students to pursue environmental solutions through a broad range of strategies: litigation, administrative proceedings, legislative and rule-making proceedings, public advocacy, and media

Participating in Bluhm Legal Clinic and Law School meetings, events and committee work;

Organizing and participating in conferences and meetings addressing key litigation issues and practice areas; and

Traveling as required for court appearances, depositions, and meetings with clients.

 

Experience and Qualifications:

J.D. degree required, and at least three years of litigation and policy experience required;

Exceptional research, writing, and editing skills

Ability to collaborate, a commitment to creating a working environment that is inclusive, equitable and welcoming, and a willingness to honor the diverse experiences and perspectives of EAC staff, students, and clients;

Self-motivated, diligent, and able to juggle multiple cases while meeting strict deadlines;

Desire to engage in community lawyering, and a willingness to use the law creatively and strategically to seek justice for clients;

Passion for teaching and enthusiasm for collaborating in departmental and law school committee work;

Admission to the Illinois Bar, or willingness to obtain admission within one year of hiring.

 

LOCATION: Chicago, Illinois

COMPENSATION: The salary is competitive and includes an excellent benefits package through Northwestern University.  Salary will be commensurate with experience and based on years out of law school.
