    DUKE LAW SCHOOL seeks a Supervising Attorney for its First Amendment Clinic. 

    The Clinic advises and represents individuals and groups with First Amendment concerns, claims, or defenses, who cannot afford the assistance of lawyers with specialized First Amendment expertise. The clinic also provides commentary and legal analysis on pending or enacted legislation that implicates First Amendment freedoms, such as Anti-SLAPP laws. Funding for the First Amendment Clinic is provided by the Stanton Foundation, which serves to complete the philanthropic agenda of Frank Stanton in supporting the First Amendment and creating a more informed citizenry.     Qualified applicants may be individuals currently teaching in a litigation clinic or practicing attorneys with relevant subject matter expertise.

    The successful candidate will be required to work closely with the Clinic’s Director and other faculty to supervise students, represent Clinic clients, and teach in the Clinic’s seminar. The ideal candidate will also be prepared to work collaboratively with the Clinic’s Director to administer the operations of the Clinic and to establish networks in North Carolina and the surrounding region with the goal of supporting local journalism. The precise contours of the position will be tailored to the strengths and interests of the successful applicant and formalized with his or her input. In addition to a strong record of, or demonstrated potential for, clinical teaching, the ideal candidate will offer:

    (1)Broad-based practice experience in the areas of media, libel, and First Amendment law, civil litigation, and appellate practice; 

    (2)A deep commitment to access to justice that is consistent with the ethos of the Duke Law clinics;

    (3)Excellent teaching and mentoring skills, and a commitment to bring the best practices of legal pedagogy to the FAC;

    (4)The ability and willingness to build connections with campus, local, regional, and statewide communities that seek to promote the values of free speech, press, assembly, and petition.

    We would expect the successful candidate to join the Duke Law faculty in the summer of 2022. Minimum requirements include a J.D.     GEORGETOWN UNIVERSITY LAW CENTER seeks a Clinical Fellow for its Racial Equity in Education Law and Policy Clinic.

    The Clinic is hiring a lawyer to serve as a Clinical Teaching Fellow and Supervising Attorney for a two-year term, beginning in fall of 2022. The Fellow will have several areas of responsibility, with an increasing role in the Clinic as the fellowship progresses. The Fellow will:

    •     Supervise students in day-to-day work related to Clinic projects, working closely with students on improving their legislative lawyering skills, including written and oral advocacy and legal and legislative analysis.

    •     Provide students with formal and informal feedback in timely, constructive, and respectful ways.

    •     Share responsibility for designing and teaching seminar sessions.

    •     Take  an  active role  in  project  development  and  assist  with the  administrative  and  project oversight responsibilities of the Clinic.

    •     Participate in a clinical pedagogy seminar to strengthen clinical    teaching    

    skills and other activities designed to support an interest in clinical teaching and legal education.

    •     At the end of the fellowship, be awarded an LL.M. in Advocacy from the Law Center.

    This fellowship offers an opportunity to work on timely issues of racial justice and education law. Fellows assume substantial responsibility  for projects  at an early  stage of  their  careers and generally play a more important role in the decision-making process than do their contemporaries in other types of law practice. They also have an opportunity to work on a variety of client matters, at different stages of development, so they gain a broader understanding of how laws and public policies are developed and how the legislative process works. Fellows work closely with a broad range of clients, meeting others who are involved in public interest law and seeing how the entities function. For those with an interest in clinical teaching, Fellows get first-hand experience in clinical supervision, and also participate in, and often co-teach, seminars.

    Qualifications:

    •     A demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of racial justice and social justice;

    •     Preferred:

    -  Experience in education, policy or legislative advocacy, or racial justice

    -  Admission to (or desire to waive into) the District of Columbia Bar.


    Pay and Other Benefits:

    The  annual  stipend for the  position  will  be $57,000 the first year and, $60,000 the second year, an LL.M. in Advocacy, plus group health insurance and other benefits. The fellowship will start in the summer of 2022 and end in the summer of 2024.

    Georgia State University College of Law seeks highly qualified applicants for a full­time clinical faculty position in its interdisciplinary Health Law Partnership (HeLP) Legal Services Clinic.

    Launched in 2004, HeLP is a community-based medical-legal collaboration among the law school, Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, and the Atlanta Legal Aid Society (see www.healthlawpartnership.org). HeLP provides legal assistance to low-income families and their children who are patients at Children's hospitals on civil matters that have the potential to improve children's health and quality of life, such as laws related to public benefits, family welfare, housing, education, consumer rights, employment, disability, and permanency planning. The HeLP Clinic, launched in 2007, teaches interdisciplinary collaborative problem-solving to students of law, medicine, and graduate students of social work, bioethics, and public health (see http:// https://law.gsu.edu/student-experience/experiential-learning/clinics/health-law-partnership-legal-services-clinic/). 

    Appointment could begin as early as Summer 2022.     American University, Washington College of Law is seeking applications for Practitioners-in-Residence for academic year 2022-23 in the Criminal Justice Clinic, the Glushko-Samuelson Intellectual Property Law Clinic, and in the International Human Rights Law Clinic.

    American University’s in-house, “live-client” Clinical Program, comprising eleven (11) in-house clinics and serving approximately 200 students per year, is respected for its leadership in scholarship, development of clinical methodology, contributions to increasing access to justice for under-served clients and breadth of offerings.

    The Practitioner-in-Residence Program, created in 1998, is a program designed to train lawyers or entry-level clinicians interested in becoming clinical teachers in the practice and theory of clinical legal education.  Many graduates of the Practitioners-in-Residence program (over 25) have gone on to tenure-track teaching positions at other law schools. Practitioners supervise student casework, co-teach weekly clinic seminars and case rounds, and engage in course planning and preparation with the clinic’s tenured faculty. They also teach a course outside of the clinical curriculum.  The Practitioner-in-Residence Program provides training in clinical theory and methodology and a writing workshop designed to assist Practitioners in the development of their scholarship.

    GEORGETOWN LAW's Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic seeks a Deputy Director to join the teaching, supervisory, and management team of the law clinic, an innovative medical-legal partnership (MLP) through which law and medical students collaborate to address legal barriers to health for low- income D.C. families through civil legal advocacy.

    Job Overview

    The Deputy Director and Senior Staff Attorney will join the Health Justice Alliance Law Clinic, a medical-legal partnership (MLP) through which law and medical students collaborate to address legal barriers to health for low-income D.C. families. The Deputy Director will be an essential member of the Clinic’s teaching and management team – providing intensive supervision and instruction to students representing clinic clients in housing, public benefits, education, disability, and family law matters. The Deputy Director will collaborate with the Law Clinic’s Director and Clinical Teaching Fellow to support the development of students’ lawyering skills and identity using clinical pedagogy approaches. 

    Additionally, the Deputy Director will serve as a primary point of contact for the Law Clinic’s MLP, and will assist the Clinic’s Faculty Director in managing partnerships, case referrals, intakes, case management and reporting systems, medical student rotations, interdisciplinary collaboration, and legal advocacy. The Deputy Director will also assist clients directly through legal representation, brief service, and advice, as well as facilitation of referrals to other legal and social services providers. As a member of the Law Clinic’s senior management team, the Deputy Director will be involved in all aspects of the clinic’s operations throughout the year.

    Work Interactions

    The Law Clinic forms a core service arm of the HJA’s MLP between the Georgetown University’s Law and Medical Centers, which includes a range of inter-professional education, service, and research initiatives. Students in the Law Clinic represent low-income families who are patients of Georgetown University health clinics in poverty law matters as part of one-semester, ten-credit intensive (nearly full time) clinical experience under the close supervision of the clinic’s staff and clinical teaching fellows.

    The Deputy Director will coordinate closely with the Law Clinic’s Director, Clinical Teaching Fellow, and Office Manager and will supervise a team of students each semester. The Deputy Director will also take a leading role in representing the Law Clinic with other partners, engaging with lawyers and non-lawyers as the primary point of contact for the MLP and coordinating closely with staff at other legal nonprofits in the Washington area. As a member of the senior management team, the Deputy Director will also have regular contact with administrative offices within Georgetown – including within the Law Center and Medical Center – such as Finance, Human Resources, and the Clinical Administration Office. Coordinating closely with internal and external stakeholders will be a crucial part of supporting the Law Clinic’s mission of serving low-income clients and assisting potential clients referred to the Law Clinic.

    Qualifications

    J.D. from an accredited law school and membership or ability to waive into the District of Columbia Bar

    A minimum of seven to ten years of post-J.D. experience providing legal services to low-income clients (with experience serving low-income clients in two or more of the following areas: housing, public benefits, education, disability, and/or family law)

    Experience supervising attorneys and/or law students in the provision of civil legal services

    Experience collaborating with non-lawyers in support of legal advocacy

    Demonstrated commitment to social justice and client-centered legal services

    The ideal candidate will also have:

    Demonstrated ability to communicate with and listen to people from a wide variety of backgrounds

    Experience practicing law as part of a medical-legal partnership

    The Associate Research Scholar / Supervising Staff Attorney will hold the University title of Associate Research Scholar. They will also hold a secondary instructional appointment, pending faculty approval, as a Lecturer in Law for each semester in which they teach.

    The Associate Research Scholar / Supervising Staff Attorney will work in the Columbia Human Rights Clinic, with its directors, staff, and students to advance human rights and address global power imbalances around the world. They will do this through a range of activities including implementing clinical projects, syllabus development, teaching, scholarly research and writing, and human rights programming.

    The Associate Research Scholar / Supervising Staff Attorney will be an integral part of the Columbia human rights community, and will play a key role in fostering this community. Over the course of their appointment, they will undertake increasing responsibility for all aspects of the Clinic, including designing and teaching clinic seminars; building and leading clinic projects in partnership with civil society organizations and impacted communities; providing close supervision, guidance, and feedback to teams of students working on those projects; and conducting scholarly research and writing. Through this work, they will be equipping students with the skills necessary to be strategic and creative human rights advocates, critically analyze human rights, and advance innovative human rights methodologies. The Associate Research Scholar / Supervising Staff Attorney will be provided extensive professional, teaching, practice, and scholarship mentoring.

    The duration of the appointment is for a period of two years, which may be renewable for a third and/or fourth year based on performance. Like all of the clinical positions at Columbia Law School, this is a non-tenure track position.

    NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY PRITZKER SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications for a full-time clinical assistant professorship with the Environmental Advocacy Center (EAC) within the Bluhm Legal Clinic with an expected start date of August 1, 2022.

    Founded in 2009, the EAC’s work is driven by critical environmental issues - clean air and water, cleanup of hazardous waste sites, safe drinking water, environmental justice, energy policy, and sustainability and climate change.

    Role & Responsibilities

    Supervision of Montgomery Clinical Fellow

    Partnering with environmental organizations including the Environmental Law and Policy Center, World Wildlife Fund, The Nature Conservancy, and Elevate Energy

    WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL is looking to hire a full-time faculty member to direct, teach, and supervise its Business and Community Law Clinic

    The Business and Community Law Clinic is a six-credit clinic that provides transactional legal services to small businesses, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations in the Detroit metropolitan area.  The position may be clinical-track or tenure-track, depending on the candidate’s interest and experience.  Minimum qualifications for the position include a J.D. degree and three years of law-related employment after law school. Preferred qualifications include three or more years of transactional practice, one or more year of experience as a clinical teacher, fellow, or staff attorney, and membership in the State Bar of Michigan or eligibility for admission without examination.

    WAYNE STATE UNIVERSITY LAW SCHOOL seeks applicants for a Clinical Program Staff Attorney.  

    This position will support the work of Wayne Law School’s Asylum and Immigration Law Clinic and Business and Community Law Clinic.   Current admission to the Michigan bar, eligibility for admission without examination through reciprocity, or eligibility to practice as a recent graduate under MCR 8.120 would be a plus factor.
